Strengthening Women’s Leadership in Peacebuilding Processes for Intergenerational Dialogue in Southern Africa
Despite the broader commitment to ensure the increased participation of women in peace processes, evidence continues to show consistently low numbers of women’s engagement, coupled with the dearth of gender-sensitivity in the narrative and literature on peace and security.
Implemented by the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD), this project seeks to contribute knowledge creation for large-scale positive change by documenting the role and nuanced experiences of women in peacebuilding processes. The overall objective is to strengthen women’s leadership and capacities for meaningful participation in peacebuilding processes. By documenting the role played by women in peacebuilding processes in southern Africa, the project will spotlight and tap into women’s capacities to contribute towards more inclusive, cohesive, and resilient societies.
A key feature of this project is the emphasis on developing the next generation of women leaders from local communities, civil society organizations, and government departments across southern Africa. The project team will build on existing initiatives within the region by working closely with the South African Department of International Relations, which has a dedicated division focused on capacity building for women in peacebuilding in southern Africa.
