Zeroing in on Zika

Darius Rackus, a member of Keith Pardee’s lab at the University of Toronto, assembles portable diagnostic equipment that will be used to test for Zika and other diseases in South America.

Researchers in Latin America are developing portable diagnostic technology to differentiate various strains of mosquito-borne diseases, like Zika. These diseases are often difficult to diagnose without sophisticated lab testing that is only available in a handful of large urban centres.
