IDRC-supported researchers share lessons on scaling impact from the Global South

IDRC understands scaling as a means of optimizing the results of research to affect meaningful change for people and the planet. Through its Scaling Science initiative, IDRC is committed to supporting ongoing learning about scaling — particularly from Global South perspectives.  

As part of this work, IDRC convened the scalingXchange — a virtual gathering of researchers from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East with a wide range of expertise and scaling experience. With facilitation by On Think Tanks, over the course of 2020-21, they discussed the opportunities and challenges related to taking an evidence-informed, principles-based approach to scaling impact.  

This group of IDRC-supported researchers has published a list of eight actions that funders, development agencies, researchers and innovators can take to improve how we scale impact. The authors hope that these eight actions will provide practical guidance grounded in Global South experience for those supporting and working towards sustainable development.
