Documentary shows how public employment is making cities safer in South Africa
In an engaging new documentary film, researchers from the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation share their insights of how a public employment program in South Africa is making cities safer and more inclusive. In The Role of the Orange Farm CWP in preventing violence, researchers and residents of Orange Farm, a township outside of Johannesburg, describe their experiences with the Community Work Programme (CWP), a government initiative designed to reduce poverty by guaranteeing 100 days of work to participants annually. Together, they speak to how CWP wages and their work in the community positively influences their lives and those of their families.
