About the session
Community-driven One Health approaches deserve greater attention for their ability to generate sustainable human and animal health outcomes. IDRC’s experience suggests that successful One Health initiatives are built from the ground up, emphasizing participation, consensus-building, and co-development in defining both the challenges and the solutions. While commonly cited barriers—such as governance coordination, sectoral silos, technical integration, and inter-organizational collaboration—remain important, strong local foundations are often essential to overcoming them.
This panel will:
- Highlight key features of IDRC’s One Health programming, including equitable partnerships, collaboration across sectors, and locally led research that supports sustainable, context-specific solutions.
- Share results and lessons from our One Health investments, drawing examples from epidemic preparedness and mitigating antimicrobial resistance.
- Examine how program design and local contexts have enabled or hindered the use of research in policies, programs, and practices, and identify what is needed to strengthen the impact and sustainability of One Health approaches.
