This project will contribute to the understanding of intersectionality (the interconnected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender) and inform and promote intersectional approaches to development research. Through collaborative partnerships with researchers based in the Global South, the project will produce six to eight case studies that document the diverse application of an intersectional research approach. It will synthesize the lessons on benefits, limits and barriers to incorporating an intersectional approach to development research and identify opportunities for applying this approach to research dissemination, policy application and engagement. It will provide a practical guide on putting intersectionality into practice and identify the needs for strengthening capacity both within IDRC and among our partners.
