Foresight (a structured and systematic way of using ideas about the future to anticipate and better prepare for change) is recognized as a crucial element in research for development, policy formulation and implementation of long-term development planning. Countries have highlighted capacity gaps in foresight and futures approaches and the need to institutionalize them as decision-making tools within development policy and practice.

This project seeks to strengthen organizational capacities in foresight, deepen the impact of futures thinking, and effectively integrate these practices among research partners and IDRC grantees in Eastern and Southern Africa. By leveraging foresight and futures thinking tools, the project will address these capacity gaps, establish and grow a community of foresight practitioners, contextualize approaches informed by feminist and African perspectives, and foster strategic alliances and partnerships.
