In response to the need for intersectoral approaches to address global challenges faced by health and food systems, the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) has requested IDRC’s partnership on a new program, the ACIAR-IDRC Research Program on One Health (AIRPOH). This new program recognizes inclusive agri-food systems as a core interface between human, animal, and environmental health, which is the basis for the One Health approach. Through this program, ACIAR and IDRC will provide a valuable contribution to the increased operationalization of this approach in an area that is intricately connected to agri-food systems and, consequently, to food security. The program will help to influence inclusive One Health approaches through the production of valuable regional public goods at a greater scale.

The AIRPOH will comprise a portfolio of One Health research-for-development projects in Southeast Asia, underpinned by South-South collaboration. The portfolio will aim to incorporate learnings from previous and current research funded by ACIAR, IDRC and others, and may inform a larger One Health Fund in the future, should sufficient funding be available.

Collaborative One Health Research Initiative on Epidemics (COHRIE)

Devastating epidemics like SARS-CoV, H1N1, H5N1, MERS, Ebola and COVID-19 have resulted in lost lives and livelihoods, ravaged economies and healthcare systems and disruptions to regional and global health security.
