Nowhere is this more apparent than with online gender-based violence (OGBV). This modern form of violence perpetuates gender inequality and has significant impacts on its targets, including silencing women’s and LGBTQ+ voices online. The Supporting a Safer Internet project set out to conduct ground-breaking research.

Gaps between Internet usage and public policy are prevalent both globally and locally across a number of areas, ranging from cybersecurity to diplomacy, net neutrality, data governance, privacy and freedom of expression issues. The shifting demographic basis of Internet-using populations makes it doubly important that public opinion surveys aimed at informing public policy reach traditionally marginalized voices.
