Niger institute focuses on financial accountability
Created in 1975, the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique du Niger (INRAN) is a public institution under the technical and administrative auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture. Its mission: to contribute to food security and rural development in Niger through research carried out in four regional centres located in Niamey, Kollo, Tahoua, and Maradi.
During the IDRC's Resource Mobilization for Research (RMR) project, INRAN focused on renewing outdated financial management systems that impeded effective management and reporting on its activities. As a result, it achieved dramatic improvements in the timeliness and quality of its budgeting and reporting systems, and in staff morale. It plans further efforts to improve internal communications and achieve greater visibility.
