Mukuru rising

In 2011, residents of Nairobi’s Mukuru settlement were being evicted from their homes in great numbers. Armed with the research and evidence supported by IDRC, activists later succeeded in having the settlement designated as a special planning area, the first step in a process that could help transform the slum and the lives of its 300,000 residents.
