GrOW briefs: From research to policy

How can we improve women’s livelihoods, enabling them to pursue better paid and more productive jobs, accumulate assets, and contribute to societal well-being? Fourteen research teams under the Growth and Economic Opportunities for Women (GrOW) program have been identifying the key barriers to women’s economic empowerment and mapping avenues for change. The research aims to identify solutions and ensure that women contribute to and benefit from economic growth.

Using evidence from research conducted in 50 countries around the world, GrOW explores issues such as restrictive social norms, access to job opportunities, measuring women’s economic empowerment, and the lack of recognition of many women’s dual roles as caregivers and breadwinners.

The following GrOW briefs synthesize the findings from this research and offer actionable recommendations for decision-makers in government, the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and other spheres of society.
