Creating opportunities for women in agriculture
Learning financial skills through involvement in an urban farming cooperative has improved the lives of women in Amman, Jordan. The article Developing Value Chains in Amman, Jordan describes how the cooperative has led to women gaining valuable skills through increased participation in business and farming activities.
The From Seed to Table initiative described in the article supports the operation of a not-for-profit women’s cooperative that provides income to families through the production and marketing of local produce. The project has provided opportunities for women to gain management and other skills, including marketing, proposal writing, bookkeeping, and market price analysis.
This article, written by Salwa Tohme Tawk, Ziad Moussa, Shadi Hamadeh, and Diana Abi Saiid, describes research results from the project From Seed to Table: Strengthening Urban Farmers' Organizational and Marketing Skills (Middle East and North Africa). IDRC supported the project through the Resource Centres on Urban Agriculture and Food Security.
