TTI Phase 2 Institutional Support: Ethiopian Development Research Institute

This funding will help strengthen the Ethiopian Development Research Institute's (EDRI) role as a credible public policy institution in Ethiopia by enhancing its ability to provide high-quality, influential, and policy-relevant research.

About the Ethiopian Development Research Institute
EDRI is a semi-autonomous government development research institute. Its mission is to conduct research on Ethiopia's economic development and to share the results. Its research program focuses on poverty, agriculture, rural development, and macroeconomic modelling and analysis. EDRI receives its funding from the Think Tank Initiative (TTI).

Research institutions to shape policies
TTI is a multi-donor program dedicated to strengthening independent policy research institutions, or think tanks, in developing countries. The program aims to enhance their ability to provide sound research that informs and influences policy.

This second TTI phase (2014?2019) will fund 43 institutions. This will help them consolidate their role as credible development actors in their countries, and in some cases, regionally and internationally. For EDRI, this project will help enhance its research quality, organizational performance, and policy engagement.

Performance and policy engagement
Through this support over the next 4.5 years, EDRI is expected to
-help 10 senior researchers enhance their skills in policy analysis
-increase researchers' ability to use innovative and advanced analytic techniques to provide policy guidance to the government of Ethiopia
-publish peer reviewed books, monographs, and articles in refereed journals
-strengthen the links between academics, policy communities, and institutions throughout Ethiopia and Eastern Africa
-promote debate, encourage cooperation, and improve the communication of ideas
-attract and retain staff
-improve organizational, financial management, and audit systems
-expand its outreach opportunities to effectively communicate and report research findings
-become Ethiopia's leading research institute in the field of economics
