This funding will help strengthen the Consortium pour la recherche économique et sociale's (CRES) role as a credible public policy institution in Senegal by enhancing its ability to provide high-quality, influential, and policy-relevant research.

About the Consortium pour la recherche économique et sociale
CRES was created in 2004 at the Université Cheikh Anta Diop by a multidisciplinary group of researcher-teachers. Its mission includes building research and analysis capacity in economics and the social sciences, as well as informing decision-making on social and economic questions.

CRES' research priorities include the analysis of poverty, growth, and equality issues, local development, regional integration and globalization issues, economy of information (information and communication technologies), and economy of human resources (education, health, and population). CRES receives its funding from the Think Tank Initiative (TTI).

Support to think tanks worldwide
TTI is a multi-funder program dedicated to strengthening independent policy research institutions, or think tanks, in developing countries. The program aims to enhance their ability to provide sound research that informs and influences policy.

This second TTI phase (2014?2019) will fund 43 institutions. This will help them consolidate their role as credible development actors in their countries, and in some cases, regionally and internationally. For CRES, this project will help enhance its research quality, organizational performance, and policy engagement.

Improved research, better performance
Through this support over the next 4.5 years, CRES is expected to
-reach higher research standards by recruiting and retaining qualified research staff, implementing a code of ethics, and involving external peer reviewers in research and dissemination activities
-maintain administration and financial management processes and procedures, including regular account audits, and adherence to IDRC financial reporting requirements
-position itself on a path to long-term sustainability by diversifying and expanding its funding sources
-follow measurement and evaluation processes to ensure that internal targets are met and to inform CRES of the impact of its work
-contribute to public policy discussions and decision-making on aquaculture development and agricultural subsidies in Senegal
