In many sub-Saharan Africa countries, education data systems are weak at sub-national levels, hampering timely and effective decision-making. Building on promising sub-national micro-examples of data systems that have been piloted in several countries, this project will adapt, scale-up, integrate and strengthen data systems to address education activities, ranging from enrollment to graduation in West and East Africa.
The project integrates data sources at the sub-national level in Burkina Faso, Senegal and Uganda with a view to gaining a comprehensive understanding of education landscapes. It leverages a data-driven approach that empowers local and national stakeholders to: make informed decisions; foster accountability, equality and inclusivity; and improve educational outcomes for all. The project will conduct applied research to generate and mobilize evidence on scaling micro-example data systems. It will address: effective strategies to adapt, scale and implement promising innovations in equitable and sustainable ways; the factors that enable, incentivize or impede the scaling of these innovations; and how the innovations promote gender equality, equity and inclusion and track youth transition into formal or informal employment. This project will be implemented by the Nairobi-based African Population and Health Research Center in partnership with academic institutions in the three countries.
