The effects of climate change and poor production and natural resource exploitation practices are causing worrying degradation of productive ecosystems in Burkina Faso. This project will support a mass communication strategy and an interpersonal communication strategy based on interactive radio in collaboration with six radio stations in three target regions. This approach aims to foster social and behavioural change around ecosystem-based adaptation, gender equality and social inclusion in climate change adaptation actions.
The project will build stakeholder capacity and knowledge sharing on ecosystem-based adaptation through broadcasts, training and knowledge sharing frameworks in targeted regions. In particular, the project will support radio stations in the production and co-creation of participatory radio series and the use of information and communication technologies.
The project will enable local communities to identify and express their needs and knowledge in ecosystem-based adaptation. It will broaden access to information on best practices. It will help rural communities to learn, apply and own solutions for climate change adaptation. It will make decision-makers more sensitive to the needs, knowledge and experiences of rural communities, particularly women and young people, in terms of ecosystem-based adaptation. The project aims to reach over 450,000 people in the three target regions.
This project is part of the Step Change initiative, co-funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands and IDRC. Step Change is a five-year, CAD28.5-million initiative that aims to accelerate equitable and inclusive locally led adaptation.
