Technological acceleration, human-induced climate change and the global energy transition are restructuring labour markets around the world. Policy decisions made today will shape the impact of these transitions on the world of work, especially their impact on the most vulnerable workers and communities across the Global South. Through the FutureWORKS initiative, IDRC is deepening its investment in a Southern-led research and knowledge mobilization agenda aimed at understanding the impacts of ongoing transformations at multiple scales. The general objective of the FutureWORKS initiative is to support regionally nuanced and high-quality research that addresses key future-of-work challenges and opportunities with a focus on innovative and gender-responsive approaches to advance adaptable skills and promote decent work at the nexus with climate action.
This project supports the establishment of the FutureWORKS Knowledge Mobilization Hub. It will facilitate synergy building and peer learning across five FutureWORKS regional hubs in Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, Africa and the Middle East; promote capacity-building and technical guidance to ensure research quality; integrate and synthesize research findings highlighting points of convergence and differences across regions; position results for use in global policy fora with key decisionmakers; and fill critical research gaps given the fast-paced developments in the future of work.
