A crucial issue for education data systems is the disconnect between household survey data and administrative data in education management information systems. Household survey data primarily focuses on demand-side factors, such as children's socioeconomic characteristics and learning environments at home, while administrative data covers supply-side factors such as school characteristics and teacher qualifications. These two datasets exist in parallel to each other.
This project will link the two datasets at the school level to connect information from the supply and demand sides and provide a more comprehensive view of the education landscape. This will empower ministries of education to leverage data to understand household and school factors associated with education access and learning outcomes and help identify appropriate ways to improve learning outcomes for all children. The project will enhance the effective use of data through capacity strengthening to use innovative tools and methods. It will explore the extent to which gender, wealth, ethnicity, disability and other factors affect access, learning and progression through education and consider effective ways of data integration and use to address issues of gender equality, equity, and inclusion and improve learning outcomes for all.
This project will be implemented in Kyrgyz Republic, Lao Peoples Democratic Republic, Mongolia, Nepal, and Pakistan (Punjab Province). It is funded under the Global Partnership for Education Knowledge and Innovation Exchange (KIX), a joint endeavour between the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and IDRC to connect expertise, innovation and knowledge to help low- and middle-income countries build stronger education systems and accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goal on education.
