Vulnerable communities in the Global South are deeply affected by climate change, and the Sustainable Development Goals’ objectives of inclusion are unlikely to be met. This project focuses on promoting the types of knowledge that can support local communities in managing complex global challenges. Building on the international community’s recent commitment to localization, this project aims to enhance the potential of locally contextualized actionable knowledge in addressing challenges identified by communities themselves. It will enhance understanding of the conditions for advancing community and Indigenous-led knowledge for positive change, applying a gender and decolonial lens.

This project will engage with global networks of community and Indigenous-led research practitioners. It will systematize existing practices of community-led participatory research to draw lessons about values, principles, ethics and methods that support multi-dimensional impacts on current developmental challenges. It will also facilitate peer learning about good practices among civil society, engaged scholars and community researchers, and train the next generation of researchers, to deepen future impactful policies and practices. The project will explore, produce and share updated evidence on the effective integration and collaboration of diverse communities in research and policy debates, and results will be shared through an open-access community-based knowledge platform.
