The Climate Change and Health Innovation Hub for West and Central Africa is a research hub that aims to strengthen the resilience of health systems to climate change in West and Central Africa, a region severely affected by climate-sensitive diseases and disorders. The hub will address this challenge by improving data availability, fostering interdisciplinary and intersectoral research collaborations, and building the capacity of the health workforce to anticipate and respond to the outbreak of diseases and disorders related to climate change.

In addition to funding a cohort of projects and providing technical assistance, the hub will conduct capacity-strengthening activities and facilitate cross-project collaboration, ensuring the integration of gender equality and inclusion approaches in the implementation and the dissemination of innovative solutions in climate and health. The project emphasizes stakeholder engagement, with a strong focus on engaging governments, health organizations and local communities to ensure context-specific innovation and sustainable solutions.

This project is part of the Advancing Research for Climate and Health (ARCH) initiative, a five-year partnership between the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and IDRC to address critical knowledge gaps at the intersection of climate change and health. ARCH will support five regional hubs on climate change and health.
