Acting Director, Policy and Evaluation

Kaia has over 20 years of experience as an evaluation specialist, working with different organizations around the world on their monitoring and evaluation efforts. She brings a strong results-focus to her M&E work and uses human-centred approaches to include diverse voices and address inequalities through monitoring and evaluation. She has held senior evaluation specialist positions at CARE Canada, Global Affairs Canada, FAO and the Caribbean Development Bank, and has worked as an evaluation consultant for NGOs, the UN, the private sector and research organizations including IDRC. She was one of the initial implementors and facilitators of IDRC’s Outcome Mapping approach and as such has been collaborating with the Centre since the beginning of her career. Her work in the Andes and the Caribbean combines her background in community-led resource management, food security and agroecology with her M&E work.  She joined IDRC as the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Manager in March 2024, and is currently in the role of Acting Director of the Policy and Evaluation Division.

Kaia holds an MA in community-based natural resource management from the Universidad Catolica del Ecuador, and a BA Hons. From Trent University, Canada.
