Acting Director, Climate-Resilient Food Systems

Greg Hallen is the team leader and current acting director of the Climate-Resilient Food Systems program, through which he is devoted to furthering IDRC’s contributions to global development by enabling food-systems change and community adaption, achieving co-benefits for population health, local economies and their environments.

For 15 years, Greg has led programs at IDRC aimed at developing evidence, innovations and policies to improve health, build healthier food systems and prevent non-communicable and infectious diseases. 

Greg has a public health background, having served as CEO of the National Heart Foundation in Australia’s Northern Territory, and for five years with the World Health Organization in Cambodia advancing tobacco control research and policy in Southeast Asia. He also worked in population health and nutrition services in rural and remote Australia. He has a master’s degree in nutrition and dietetics and a science degree, both from the University of Sydney, and a graduate diploma of education from Charles Sturt University (Australia).
