IDRC and many of the global health researchers it supports are participating in the conference to share research results on maternal and child health and adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights. Many of these research partners are part of Innovating for Maternal and Child Health in Africa (IMCHA), an eight-year multi-funder initiative that is generating a wealth of evidence on scaling interventions in communities, healthcare facilities, and policy environments to improve the health of women, newborns, and children.

IDRC and IMCHA are participating in four symposia during the conference:

Monday, October 19

  • Communicating innovative research findings to policy in a changing context (11:00 am–12:00 pm EDT)
  • Plenary session on Innovating for health: Funders’ perspectives, with IDRC Program Leader Montasser Kamal and other funding agency representatives  (1:45–2:45 pm EDT)

Tuesday, October 20

  • Addressing adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights in Africa and the Middle East – Lessons from the field (12:30–1:30 pm EDT)

Thursday, October 22

  • Building resilience and improving health in communities (12:30–1:30 pm EDT)

Gairdner Global Perspectives Panel, October 21, 11 am

This year the Gairdner Global health panel is part of this conference. Ten academic, governance, and innovation leaders will offer their perspectives  on the SDGs and global health through the pandemic lens. They include:

  • Zulfiqar Bhutta, Co-Director, SickKids Centre for Global Child Health
  • Anthony Fauci, Director, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Institutes of Health
  • Peter Piot, Director, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine
  • Soumya Swaminathan, Chief Scientist, World Health Organization

IDRC is partnering with the Gairdner Foundation and several other organizations to present this bilingual event.

For the past 13 years, IDRC has supported the Canadian Conference on Global Health, which has been a gathering point for  researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and students from Canada and around the world. To make this a truly global online gathering point, registration is free for residents of low- and middle-income countries, thanks in part to IDRC and IMCHA funding.
