IDRC to support One Health research on emerging epidemic threats

An upcoming call for concept notes will support research to identify, implement, and assess potential innovations in policies, programs, or practices in response to emerging epidemic threats using the One Health approach that integrates human, animal, and environmental health.
The call will support multisectoral research consortia to:
- produce stronger localized evidence on the root drivers underlying emerging epidemics;
- strengthen structures, programs, and policies to enhance the prevention, preparedness, and response to future epidemics; and
- facilitate the uptake and use of this evidence in national and global programs, policies, and practices.
The call will be open to consortia of researchers, policymakers, and practitioners who will bring together complementary expertise and knowledge in One Health research and who have a strong track record of research leadership in low- and middle-income countries. The lead applicant of each consortium will be from a low- or middle-income country.
The call opens in early March 2021 with a focus on Southeast Asia, Latin America, and sub-Saharan Africa. The estimated budget per consortium will be CA$2–$5 million.
