IDRC at the Seventh Global Symposium on Health Systems Research

HSR2022, hosted by Health Systems Global, will bring together the international health systems and policy research community. Over 2,000 practitioners, policymakers, researchers, health advocates, journalists and students from around the world will attend.
IDRC has supported past biennial Global Symposia on Health Systems Research (Montreal 2010, Beijing 2012, Cape Town 2014, Vancouver 2016, Liverpool 2018 and Dubai in 2020), and we look forward to participating in this year’s event. Two members of IDRC’s staff will be present at HSR2022, John Dusabe-Richards, director of our Global Health Division, and Roberto Bazzani, a senior program specialist in IDRC’s regional office in Montevideo, Uruguay.
As an official supporter of the event, IDRC will have a booth at HSR2022 displaying print materials and videos on many of our initiatives. A special website is also available that describes IDRC’s programming related to global health.
Dusabe-Richards and Bazzani will participate in the following three events (Bogotá time) organized by our grantees:
- Between devil and deep blue sea filled with sharks: COVID-19 and West and Central African Health Policy and Systems and Lessons for Current and Future Epidemics and Pandemics
Monday, October 31, 1:00 to 4:30 pm
Satellite: Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons
This session explores the drivers of national and sub-national health policy and system responses to COVID-19 in West and Central Africa, collateral effects on the most vulnerable, mechanisms fueling these effects and lessons for strengthening health policy and systems for epidemic preparedness and response in resource-constrained contexts.
- Promoting intersectoral collaboration through knowledge translation: lessons from the Partnership for Evidence and Equity in Responsive Social Systems (PEERSS)
Tuesday, November 1, 12:30 to 4:00 pm
Satellite: IDRC and Results for Development (R4D)
With support from IDRC and Hewlett Foundation and coordination from R4D, PEERSS brings together 13 country teams from across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe and the Middle East to advance evidence-informed policymaking, with a focus on social policies and sustainable development goals. Many of the PEERSS panelists will discuss knowledge translation approaches that have supported a harmonized response to social and health challenges, including COVID-19, and discuss the lessons and innovative strategies that can be carried forward and scaled up to ensure more social systems’ policies are based on the best available evidence.
- Contribution of the private sector in health systems resilience and reform - Stronger together beyond COVID
November 1, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
Satellite: Private Sector in Health Thematic Working Group
This one-day symposium will gather diverse stakeholders engaged with the private sector in health to share new research approaches on how to make best use of private health sector advancements and regulation in low- and middle-income settings to find a common platform for health advancement.
