IDRC marks 50 years of global research and innovation

May 13, 2020
Five decades ago, the parliamentary bill to establish IDRC was unanimously supported by all parties, and on May 13, the IDRC Act received royal assent in Parliament. From the beginning, IDRC pledged to work in collaboration with researchers in developing countries to find sustainable solutions for pressing challenges.

Now, 50 years on, the Centre’s commitment to global collaboration has ensured its long-term relevance. IDRC’s anniversary comes as the world grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic, but it is challenges such as these that highlight the need for robust research and data and the importance of international collaboration.

To mark IDRC’s 50 years of research, innovation, and collaboration, we invite you to watch video messages from the Honourable Karina Gould, Minister of International Development, IDRC Chairperson Margaret Biggs, and Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.
