Celebrated across Canada, International Development Week (IDW) aims to support international development priorities while highlighting the important contributions from Canadians at home and around the world. From February 4 to 10, 2024, this 34th IDW calls Canadians to #GoForTheGoals: the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) galvanizing action on everything from hunger to education to climate change.

IDRC is exploring this theme through an AI lens, highlighting how the development and use of responsible AI can move the needle on the SDGs. IDRC started supporting research for AI for development in 2017 and is now part of a powerful group of private- and public-sector funders supporting responsible AI research and innovation in the Global South.

IDW presents a great opportunity to share how IDRC research partners are working to develop and deploy local, culturally relevant and responsible AI solutions. They include tools to improve health-care delivery, help farmers identify animal diseases or reduce the negative impact of climate change. The campaign will also showcase research that aims to improve equitable AI governance, include Global South perspectives in the AI conversation and achieve gender equality in the increasingly AI-driven world of work.

Help us spread the word about how responsible AI is contributing to the achievement of the SDGs by sharing our posts on XFacebook and LinkedIn.
