Funding to reduce and redistribute unpaid care work in West Africa

Building on the success of the recently concluded Growth and Economic Opportunities for Women (GrOW) program, this call for proposals is part of a new phase of programming in women’s economic empowerment aiming to spur transformative change to advance gender equality in the world of work.
These projects will generate novel, country-specific evidence on what works and what doesn’t work in reducing and redistributing women’s unpaid care work in environmentally-friendly ways that generate business and employment opportunities for women. The goal is enhanced gender equality through the economic empowerment of marginalized women in West Africa.
This new IDRC-funded initiative complements the GrOW–East Africa program, jointly funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and IDRC.
GrOW–West Africa will help to forge partnerships with public and private sector actors to identify and scale successful solutions. It will deepen the body of evidence to support public policies and interventions and private sector initiatives to achieve women’s economic empowerment and Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality.
